Austin Boren will be joining our research team as a graduate student in the Ph.D. program beginning Fall 2016. Austin has worked hard for our lab over the last couple years in a variety of capacities, including as a research assistant and, more recently, as our laboratory technician.

Andrew Murtishaw has been awarded the 2015-2016 Edward Lovinger Scholarship. This scholarship is a competitive scholarship awarded to an outstanding graduate student in the Psychology Department.

The Las Vegas Review Journal wrote up a brief piece about our new collaboration with Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. It is always nice to see the community become more aware of the awesome research being conducted here in Las Vegas — both at UNLV and the Ruvo Center.
We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) in a 5-year collaboration with Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. The COBRE is an $11.1 million grant from the National Institute of Health and National Institute of General Medical Sciences.

Dr. Kinney discusses our most recent publication with UNLV News. He discusses the role of insulin perturbations (Diabetes) and chronic inflammation in the development of Alzheimer's disease. Please view this article released by UNLV News Center.
Chelcie Heaney was highlighted in Giving Matters, the newsletter put out by UNLV Foundation, for being the 2015 recipient of the Edward Lovinger Psychology Scholarship. The Edward Lovinger Scholarship is a competitive scholarship awarded to an outstanding graduate student in the Psychology department.
Monica Bolton spoke on a panel at the Association for Psychological Sciences 26th Annual Conference. The panel was titled "The Naked Truth Part II: Surviving Graduate School" and had several panelists from various graduate schools across the United States.

Andrew Murtishaw has been named as the recipient of the 2015-2017 UNLV Board of Trustees Fellowship. This fellowship, the most prestigious awarded through UNLV, is granted to an outstanding doctoral student to cover their final two years. The Board of Trustees Fellowship is designed to allow the recipient to concentrate on their research without the additional burden of teaching and other responsibilities that often accompany a graduate assistantship.

The second annual Las Vegas Brain Bee took place on Jan. 31, 2015. This year, we introduced a "Jeopardy"-style round of questions that appeared to go over well with the participants. Our first place winner, Lilibeth, won a trip to Baltimore, Maryland to compete in the National Brain Bee and have the chance to win an all-expensive trip to Australia to compete in the International Brain Bee. Good luck Lilibeth! Thank you to everyone who volunteered to make the Las Vegas Brain Bee 2015 happen and for all of our student participants.

Krystal Belmonte, one of our senior research assistants, was interviewed on KNPR's State of Nevada as one of two graduating students selected as a UNLV Fall 2014 Outstanding Graduate. Krystal discusses her work in our laboratory, with UNLV Honor's College, and her future plans.
